blog

What type of lashes do you use?

We have a mixture of strip lashes and cluster lashes:

Strip lashes

Cluster lashes

Do I need a patch test for strip/cluster lashes?

Ideally, yes it would be an advantage for you to have a patch test done in advance of applying the lashes, to check that you do not have an allergy to the products.

Although it is rare for a reaction to occur this can happen. If you pop into the salon we can do a quick patch test to make sure – better to be safe than sorry.

Do you offer spray tans?

Yes we used a range called Kissed by Mii – this is a professional only spray tan range with marine minerals.

Can I re-use my falsies?

You can re-use your strip lashes as a gentle adhesive is provided with each set.

What can I expect from the Kissed by Mii spray tan treatment?

We offer a full professional tanning service – right from when you step through our door.

We start by conducting a consultation, so that we can discuss any concerns and questions you may have about the treatment. It also gives us a chance to understand a bit about you and your lifestyle.

You will then slip out of your clothes and we will prepare you for your spray tan.

Once we have completed your spray tan, we will then talk you through your aftercare to ensure that you receive the optimum the results.

What should I do to prepare for the spray tan?

To achieve an optimised tan, please follow these guidelines:

24 hours before:

  • If Kissed by Mii is new to you or you have any allergies, then a patch test is recommended.
  • Exfoliate your whole body, paying particular attention to drier areas like knees, elbows and feet.
  • Shave, wax or depilaratory cream to remove any unwanted hairs.

On the day of the tan:

  • Shower, but do not apply body moisturiser or oils on the skin as this may act as a barrier.
  • If you do not have nail polish on, you can apply a clear base coat to protect the nails.
  • If you wish to bring your own underwear or bikini, you can do so, and remenber to bring loose clothing and flip flops. Tight clothes may cause the tan to rub off before it has had time to fully develop.
  • Bring and umbrella – you never know the British weather!
What are the ingredients in Kissed by Mii products and what do they do?

The key ingredients are:

  • Sea Lavender – encourages skin regeneration
  • Inula Flower – protects while stimulating collaged production to firm skin
  • Coral Seaweed – rebalances vital vitamins to condition the skin
  • Red Seaweed – protects and rapairs the skin, rich in magnesium and calcium
  • Green Algae – rich in protien, maintains the skins alasticiy and softness
  • All Kissed by Mii range has a tanning agent – organic DHA, a natural ingredient derived from sugar that safely reacts with amino acids on the skin to develop that tan.
Can anyone have a spray tan?

Although the Kissed by Mii range is rich in minerals, it may not be suitable for everyone. Some to consider are:

  • If you are breast feeding – we would not be able to spray your breast area.
  • If you are on medicaction – as medication affects the ph balance of the skin it may affect the final result, please be aware of that fact.
  • Cancer – It is not advisable to have this streatment, as your skin goes through many changes and could become very sensitive and your tan may not even develop.
  • If you have any questions of concerns, please phone sk-ncept and speak to your therapist.
What are the DHA levels in Kissed by Mii?

The mid tan has 8% DHA

The dark tan has 10% DHA

Is a spray tan good before holidays?

Yes, a spray tan is suitable before holidays as clients find that a bit of a tan gives them more confidence before stepping into a bikini or swimming costume.

Please note that excessive sweating, exposure to chlorine or swimming in the sea could reduce the life of the tan. The Kissed by Mii range does not contain SFP and you must use your normal protection to protect you from the sun’s harmful rays.

I am getting married, should I have a spray tan for my big day?

Of course you can – clients have found that a spray tan, gives them a nice glow and some colour for the big day. It is recommended that you have a spray tan 3-4 days in advance of your big day – if you prefer a more natural tan, one coat of the tan can be applied.

Please note, if you are having a spray tan and professional make-up you will need to match up your foundation to your tan so that you get the perfect match. It is recommended that when you have your trial, you book a spry tan in advance to ensure that you are happy with the results on the day.

How long does it take for the spray tan to develop?

It takes about 6-8 hours for the tan to fully develop, but you will see a noticeable difference after the solution has been applied, and the tan will develop underneath . After this time, when you have had a shower, the solution will rinse away to leave a beautiful natural looking tan.

What happens if I have bleached hair and eyebrows?

That is fine if you have bleached hair. You would wear a hat to protect your hair and we will moisturise your eyebrows to act as a barrier so they don’t get stained.

gel polish - GELeration/OPI/Gelish

GELeration/OPI/Gelish are soak-off nail gel polishes that apply like polish but last like gel.

What is Jessica GELeration?

GELeration by Jessica, is a professional only soak-off gel nail polish system used in salons all over the world. It has been designed with the natural nail in mind, protecting them whilst encouraging growth under the gel.

This unique gel in a bottle is applied like a polish with the durable strength of a gel. It lasts approx. 2 weeks if the correct care is taken with your nails.

How is Jessica GELeration applied?

After preparing the nail, GELeration is applied to the nail like a polish and is cured with a UV or LED lamp. It is applied thinner, to look more like a natural manicure.

Can Jessica GELeration be used with other products?

Yes, GELeration can be used with other Jessica treatment basecoats to promote natural nail growth. It should not be used non recommended products as this will affect how long the gel polish will last.

How long does Jessica GELeration last?

It depends on your nail condition and growth, also on how you look after your nails after the treatment. It can last up to 3 weeks, but the average is 10-15 days.

Is Jessica GELeration fume free?

Yes it is, great if you are sensitive or have any allergies.

Can anyone have a Jessica GELeration?

Jessica GELeration can be applied for most people, although there are times when it cannot be applied. If you are sensitive, or if you have any nail or skin infections, please advise of anything when booking your appointment.

How do you remove Jessica GELeration?

It is recommended that you return to the salon to have them professionally removed, or you can use the GELeration removal kit if you cant make it to the salon – remember not to pick them off as you will damage your nails by doing so.

What aftercare is required for Jessica GELeration?

In order to keep your GELeration lasting as long as possible, please take care:

  • Use gloves when washing up your doing housework
  • Do not use your nails as tools to open things – treat them with care – if you break the seal of the gel polish, it will start to lift and peel
  • Avoid products with lanolin or mineral oils – as this will decrease the life of the gel polish e.g. sun creams, try to wash/wipe the cream off your nail area after application
  • Use Phenomen oil – or cuticle oil at least twice a day
  • If your nails start to peel or lift – avoid the temptation to pick off the rest as this will damage the nail – please return to sk-ncept to fix the situation
  • Avoid filing the nail at home as this will break the seal and reduce the longevity of the gel polish.

HD Brows/ High Definition

HD Brows, also known as High Definition is a revolutionary brow treatment that is tailored to suit you. By assessing your skin tone, colouring and face shape a bespoke brow is created to suit you.

What is HD Brows?

HD Brows is a revolutionary treatment that has been taking the market by storm, since 2008. Launched by Nilam Patel – the eyebrow queen, this was the first to offer a branded eyebrow shaping treatment and education.

The HD Brows ethos is to provide an ‘experience’ rather than just an individual treatment.

80% of clients follow a re-growth programme – the long term development and maintenance of beautiful brows.

10% of clients are fortunate enough to follow a maintenance programme – to maintain their brows.

10% of clients will not be able to have the HD Brows treatments due to the condition of the brows or skin in the brow area. Or, if they have semi-permanent make-up this may not receive the full desired affect; but can still benefit from High Definition make-up.

What is in a HD Brows treatment?

HD Brows is a treatment that can only be carried out by an official HD Brows stylist. The treatment starts with an in-depth consultation.

By assessing your face shape, skin tone and colouring a unique brow is created. The treatment uses a range of tinting, waxing and threading techniques to create your tailored brow shape and colour.

Why do I need a patch test for HD Brows?

It is critical that you carry out a patch test at least 24 hours before the HD Brows treatment. Although it is rare – this is to ensure that you do not have an allergic reaction to the tint used. Ideally it is best to pop into the salon, alternatively a sample can be sent by post.

A signature will be required to state that you have carried out the patch test before the treatment. Unfortunately if you have not completed the patch test, the treatment will not be carried out and you may be charged.

What’s the difference between HD Brows and brow shaping?

HD Brows/ High Definition has transformed the traditional brow shaping treatment to the ultimate eyebrow styling experience. There is a proven HD Brows/ High Definition design formula for couture brows.

It has changed the treatment from a quick salon visit using traditional techniques to perfecting these and combining them to create a unique brow shape.

HD Brows /High Definition focuses on long term results with ultimate design and shaping techniques, rather than quick hair removal.

By using professional only products only available to HD Brows/ High Definition trained stylists, HD Brows have become an experience that clients trust and come back to time and time again.

Why do you have an HD Brows consultation?

A personal consultation is always required to ensure that the stylist and the client discuss the HD Brows treatment. It is an opportunity for you the client to give the stylist the information they need to carry out the correct treatment. It also gives you the time to understand what is included and what can be achieved during your treatment.

It covers the 4 key questions:
What size brow you would like – full medium or slim.

What colour of brow you would like – the tone and depth of the colour.

What shape do you have in mind.

Is there a particular type of brow you have in mind – bring in pictures if you have any.

Can anyone have the HD Brows treatment?

HD Brows is a fantastic treatment, but it is not suitable for everyone. If you have had an allergic reaction to the patch test, or if you had a medical contra-indication around the brow or lash area you are not able to have the treatment. If you have any contagious eye and skin infections you are not able to have the HD Brows treatment. If you have used in the last 6 weeks or are using any steroid based creams, the treatment may be able to take place but changes will need to be made to the treatment.

Please call to discuss your requirements and expectations or any conditions you have.

I suffer from hair loss, can I have the HD Brows treatment?

If you have little or no hair present, you can still have the HD Brows experience, but the final result will be limited to the lack of hair. The stylist can create a feint line and then provide a make-up lesson to maintain the look.

What are the 7 steps of the HD Brows treatment?

Although many people think of the 7 steps of HD Brows treatment to include threading and waxing, this is only a small part of it.

The HD Brows treatment is more of the whole experience that can only be carried out by professionally trained HD Brows/ High Definition stylists. The treatment includes the following techniques; preparation, consultation, colouring, design and shaping of the brows, tailoring the brow and a tailored aftercare briefing.

Do I have to have thick heavy brows with HD Brows?

No not at all! The HD Brows treatment is tailored to you and your needs. As a trained stylist we will discuss what you would like to achieve in the long term and how we get to the final result. During the consultation, the stylist will assess your face shape, your skin tone and colour and provide you with a bespoke brow.

  • There is not ‘dragging’ with an airbrush.
  • Less product is used with an airbrush compared to conventional foundation.

Nouveau Lashes

Nouveau Lashes extensions are designed to give you thicker and longer lashes. Individual, very fine and perfectly shaped to enhance your natural eyelashes. So good you'll want to 'flash' them all day long. Patch test required min. 24 hours before treatment.

What are Nouveau Lashes?

Nouveau Lashes are lash extensions designed to give you thicker, longer and natural looking lashes. They are not false lashes or cluster lashes. Nouveau Lashes are very fine, perfectly shaped made to look like a natural lash. One Nouveau Lashes extension is applied at a time using a special adhesive, directly on to your natural eyelash, in a specific sequence. This process is repeated until you have a full set and takes around 2 hours to complete.

What can I expect from my Nouveau Lashes?

The Nouveau Lashes treatment is relaxing and enjoyable. Just lie back and relax as your luscious lash extensions are applied by your fully qualified Nouveau Lashes pro. They are manufactured to imitate a natural lash and will give you a natural-looking set of lashes.

Because each lash is applied individually the treatment times can vary and may take 2 hours. However, it’s time well-spent as your Nouveau Lashes can last up to 2 months!

Do Nouveau Lashes lash extensions damage your natural eyelashes?

No. Providing your Nouveau Lashes are applied using the correct length and thickness suitable for your lashes; and aftercare instructions are followed. Your natural eyelashes will not be damaged unless they are pulled out deliberately with Nouveau Lashes attached to them. In that case, the natural lash will be replaced by a new one as part of the natural lash growth cycle.

How long to Nouveau Lashes last?

Your Nouveau Lashes can last up to 2 months, if you look after them.

We do recommend that you have maintenance treatments every two to three weeks. Why? Because your natural lashes constantly shed – their individual lifecycle is around 90 days so to retain that ‘fullness’ it’s important to maintain.

The maintenance procedure simply adds extra Nouveau Lashes to those places where your natural lashes have completed their natural cycle, to keep your lashes looking at their best.

How do I look after my Nouveau Lashes after the treatment?

As with any beauty treatment, good aftercare will help your lashes look better for longer.

To ensure that your Nouveau Lashes are long lasting and stay beautiful, proper care and maintenance are required.

For the first 2 hours after your Nouveau Lashes treatment do not allow water to come in to contact with your lashes.

For 2 days afterwards do not steam your face, use a steam bath, swim or wash your face with hot water.

Do not use waterproof mascara or mascara remover on Nouveau Lashes as make-up remover will affect the Nouveau Lashes bond.

Only use a water based mascara on the Nouveau Lashes tip.

Do not perm Nouveau Lashes!

Do not use lash curlers on Nouveau Lashes.

Do not rub your eyes when washing your face – always pat the lashes dry after cleansing.

Can anyone have Nouveau Lashes Lash extensions?

No, although Nouveau Lashes are a great treatment, they are not suitable for everyone. Please call us to discuss your requirements and expectations or any conditions you have.

What’s the difference between Nouveau Lashes and false lashes?

Nouveau Lashes are individual synthetic lashes, designed to thicken and lengthen your own, natural lashes. They are applied one-by-one to your own lashes by a professional Nouveau Lashes trained technician. They can last up to 2 months depending on the life-cycle of your natural eyelash and must be professionally removed.

Strip lashes are set on to a ‘strip’ and applied in one go with a non-professional grade adhesive. For information on our false lashes – please click here.

How do you remove Nouveau Lashes?

As these lash extensions are bonded using professional grade adhesive, they must be removed by a trained Nouveau Lashes expert, otherwise you could risk damaging your natural lash.

Why do I need a patch test for Nouveau Lashes?

It is important that you carry out a patch test at least 24 hours before the lashes are applied. Although it is rare – this is to ensure that you do not have an allergic reaction to the adhesive. Please pop into the salon for a quick patch test.

Nouveau Lashes Enhance/LVL

Nouveau Lashes Enhance is also known as LVL. LVL stands for Length, Volume, and Lift. It's the amazing alternative to eyelash extensions! LVL has been designed to enhance your natural eyelashes to create the illusion of longer, thicker lashes… so addictive you won't just want them for holidays. Patch test required min. 24 hours before treatment.

What does LVL stand for?

LVL stands for Length, Volume, Lift.

What is LVL?

Nouveau Lash Enhance/LVL stands for Length, Volume, and Lift. The stunning alternative to eyelash extensions! Nouveau Lash Enhance/LVL has been designed to enhance your natural eyelashes by straightening them rather than curling to create the illusion of longer, thicker lashes. It has taken the beauty industry by storm and is loved by celebrities and beauty professionals alike as it creates a open-eyed effect using your own lashes.

Nouveau Lash Enhance/LVL can be a more cost effective, lower maintenance alternative to lash extensions.

Why do I need a patch test for LVL?

It is critical that you carry out a patch test at least 24 hours before the LVL treatment. Although it is rare – this is to ensure that you do not have an allergic reaction to any of the products used. Ideally it is best to pop into the salon, alternatively some samples can be sent by post.

What can I expect from Nouveau Lash Enhance/LVL?

Nouveau Lash Enhance/LVL is not like the old type of eyelash perming where rods were used; your lashes are wrapped around, making your lashes smaller and curling back on themselves and often with frizzy ends. This treatment lifts and straightens giving you an amazing open-eyed glam look with thicker and longer looking lashes – WOW appeal immediately.

The Nouveau Lash Enhance/LVL lash treatment uses silicone shields are used and the lashes are temporarily bonded onto the shields lifting the lashes from the roots. The silicone shields come in different sizes to accommodate different lash lengths.

The formula is then applied to the central area of the lashes to lift your natural lash; then re-set into a new volumised position. Finally a dark tint is applied to give the lashes a fuller look and then a conditioner is added at the last step.

Is Nouveau Lash Enhance/LVL painful?

Not at all – in fact the treatment itself is very relaxing. You are required to lie down and close your eyes for up to an hour. When rise from your relaxing state and open your eyes, you will have longer natural curved beautiful lashes.

How long does Nouveau Lash Enhance/LVL last?

Your Nouveau Lash Enhance/LVL lashes can last up to 6 weeks, if you look after them correctly.

Your natural lashes constantly shed – their individual lifecycle is around 90 days, so it depends on what stage you have your Nouveau Lash Enhance/LVL treatment in your lash cycle.

You should wait 4 weeks from your initial treatment to have your next Nouveau Lash Enhance/LVL treatment.

How do I look after my lashes after the Nouveau Lash Enhance/LVL treatment?

As will all treatments, the more you look after you lashes, the longer they will last and retain their wide-eye effect.

Please follow the aftercare instructions below, to get the best out of your treatment:

  • For the first 24hr don’t wet your eyelashes
  • No mascara can be worn for 24 hours as the lashes are still settling into their new shape
  • Don’t flatten them while sleeping
  • Try not keep touching or rubbing them
  • No heat treatments for 24 hours
  • Keep combing them up especially after showering
  • Use recommended Nouveau Lash Enhance/LVL serum daily to condition your lashes
Can anyone have the Nouveau Lash Enhance/LVL treatment?

No, although Nouveau Lash Enhance/LVL is a great treatment, it is not suitable for everyone. If you have had an allergic reaction to the patch test, or if you have very brittle or very fine lashes or had a medical contra-indication you are not able to have the treatment. You must also have your own natural lashes to carry out the treatment, without any lash extensions applied.

Please call to discuss your requirements and expectations or any conditions you have.

How do you remove Nouveau Lash Enhance/LVL?

You cannot remove Nouveau Lash Enhance/LVL as they are not lash extensions or have anything bonded to the lashes. As your natural lashes naturally shed you will need to repeat the treatment.

Can I have lash extensions and Nouveau Lash Enhance/LVL?

Yes. You can have lash extensions added to your Nouveau Lash Enhance/LVL Lashes. In fact, Nouveau Lash Enhance/LVL treatments are particularly good for people who want lash extensions, but have downward-pointing lashes. Lash extensions can cause downward-pointing lashes to lower even further. With LVL they can get the essential lift they need before the extensions are added. Don’t forget though – you must wait 48 hours after an Nouveau Lash Enhance/LVL treatment before having lash extensions applied.

Can I have an Nouveau Lash Enhance/LVL treatment to permed or tinted lashes?

You can apply Nouveau Lash Enhance/LVL to tinted lashes.

If you have permed lashes you should wait until the lashes have grown out and replenished themselves. You should be able to assess the health of the lashes and decide whether they are strong and healthy enough for the treatment, if you are unsure, pop in to the salon so we can assess whether they would be suitable.

Does Nouveau Lash Enhance/LVL lash damage your natural lash?

No, as long as it is applied correctly by a fully trained Nouveau Lash Enhance/LVL technician. You must not over process your lashes by having Nouveau Lash Enhance/LVL treatments less than 4 weeks apart as this could weaken them and damage your natural lashes.

It is important that you carry out a patch test at least 24 hours before any treatment to ensure that you don’t have any allergic reaction to any of the products used.

What are my do’s and don’ts after waxing?

For at least 24 hours after waxing please follow this aftercare advice:

  • Avoid all heat treatments, including sunbathing, swimming, saunas, steam rooms and hot baths.
  • Avoid swimming as the chlorine could irritate the skin.
  • Do not use perfumed soap, body lotion, talcum powder or deodorant to the treated area.
  • When you have a shower or bath, only use luke-warm water as the hot water could aggravate the treated area.
  • Try to avoid touching the treated area.
  • Wear loose fitting clothing as tight fitting clothes may stick to any residual wax and cause discomfort, or may irritate any sensitive skin.

Do you wax male clients?

Yes we can wax male clients. Please see our ‘for him’ section on what services we offer.

What type of wax do you use?

We use warm wax and hot wax:

Warm wax has a lower temperature melting point, which makes it more suitable for sensitive skin. Ingredients are added to the wax, like parafiin, organic materials and asyntehtic resins to improve its texture and performance.

There is less preparation time with warm wax and can be done is a relatively shorter space of time.

Hot wax has a higher temperature melting point the main ingredient being beeswax, derived from honeycomb and resin.

As the wax cools on the skin, it hardens and adheres to the hairs rather than the skin, so there is lesser risk of bruising. It is more beneficial for courser hair, eyebrows and facial hair.

What brand of wax do you use?

At beautylicious, we use Australian Bodycare range of waxes.

The dispensing tubes for the warm wax provides our client with the knowledge that each applicatoon head is new for each client and disposed of after treatment, reducing any opportunity for cross-infection.

The hot and warm wax includes tea-tree oil, used for its antiseptic properties.
